Candidates whose role is limited to entering and working within high-risk confined spaces should select 6160-03.

Candidates who may be required to act as both an entrant and an Entry Controller / Top Person should select the combined 6160-03 + 6160-04 qualification option.

Standard Option

City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces – 6160-03

This qualification is designed for personnel working within high-risk confined spaces and covers preparing to work safely, entering and exiting safely, use of equipment, breathing apparatus, safe working procedures and dealing with emergencies.

Entrant + Entry Controller Option

Candidates selecting the combined qualification option will work towards:

City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces – 6160-03

AND

City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Control Entry and Arrangements for Confined Spaces (High Risk) – 6160-04

The 6160-04 qualification covers the role of the Entry Controller / Top Person, including controlling entry and exit, maintaining records and communications, monitoring the work team and initiating and controlling emergency procedures.

Candidates completing the combined option are required to successfully complete the assessments associated with both qualifications.

• Identification of high-risk confined space hazards
• Risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Permit and authorisation procedures
• Atmospheric hazards and gas monitoring

• Communication systems and procedures

• Monitoring changing conditions

• City & Guilds written assessment

Additional Entry Controller / Top Person Content

Candidates selecting 6160-03 + 6160-04 will also be assessed in areas including:

• Entry Controller duties and responsibilities
• Controlling safe entry and exit
• Checking entrant competence and readiness
• Entry and exit records
• Maintaining atmospheric monitoring records
• Maintaining communications with entrants
• Monitoring confined space work activities
• Controlling access around the entry point

Select this option if you require the qualification to enter and work within high-risk confined spaces.

6160-03 + 6160-04 – High Risk Entrant & Entry Controller (Top Person)
Select this option if you require both the High Risk Entrant qualification and the High Risk Entry Controller / Top Person qualification.

The combined option carries an additional charge to cover the additional City & Guilds registration, assessment, certification and administration requirements.
